Why We Choose Organic For The Earth
Every botanical ingredient we use has a story that begins in the soil.
Choosing organic has therefore never been only about what eventually touches our skin. It is also about how the plants we depend upon are grown, how the land is treated and what is left behind for the natural world.
For Naad Organics, these things are connected.
It begins with the soil
Healthy plants begin with healthy soil. Organic farming focuses on building and maintaining soil fertility through more natural systems such as crop rotation, composting and nitrogen-fixing crops, rather than relying on manufactured fertilisers.
This encourages soils that are alive with microorganisms and organic matter, helping them retain water, support plant life and store carbon.
When we choose an organic botanical oil, herb or plant extract, we are supporting an approach in which care for the ingredient begins before it is ever harvested.
Giving nature more room
Organic farming places much tighter restrictions on pesticides and does not allow manufactured fertilisers. Instead, growers work more with natural cycles, healthy soils, crop diversity and biological methods of managing pests and disease.
That matters beyond the crop itself.
Fields, hedgerows and soils are habitats too. Bees, butterflies, birds, insects and countless organisms below the ground all form part of the same living system. Research has found that organic farms support, on average, greater biodiversity than conventionally farmed land.
For us, protecting that wider ecosystem feels inseparable from working with plants.
Caring for our water as well as our land
What is used on the land does not necessarily remain there. Fertilisers and agricultural chemicals can move through soils and waterways, eventually reaching rivers and the wider environment.
By avoiding manufactured fertilisers and severely restricting pesticide use, organic farming can help reduce the risk of this kind of pollution.
It is another reason why our ingredient choices matter to us. A beautiful botanical should not only be considered for what it gives to a formulation, but also for the footprint created while growing it.
A slower way of thinking
We don’t suggest that choosing organic alone can solve every environmental challenge. Farming, sourcing, processing, packaging and transportation all have an impact, and responsible choices need to be made throughout that journey.
But organic gives us a starting point we believe in.
It asks us to think about soil before harvest, biodiversity alongside productivity and the long-term health of the land rather than simply what can be taken from it today.
That way of thinking sits naturally with how we make Naad Organics: thoughtfully, in small batches and with respect for the raw ingredients we are fortunate enough to work with.
From the earth, with respect
We chose organic at the beginning because we noticed a difference in the ingredients.
Over time, we came to appreciate that the choice reaches much further.
It is about supporting a way of growing that gives greater consideration to soil, water, wildlife and the ecosystems surrounding every plant.
Because for us, caring for skin and caring for the natural world it depends upon, should never be two separate conversations.
